PRILEP tourist attractions

+8 attractions

Prilep is a town in a valley surrounded by mountains. It is known primarily as a tobacco growing and cigarette manufacturing center. Its buildings are very diverse. In the center, there are both historic churches and new, not very interesting residential houses. However, the most beautiful places are on the outskirts, and these are monasteries hidden among the rocks.

The city has its roots in ancient Greece. This is evidenced by the statue of Alexander of Macedon standing in the main square. Right next to it, there is a fairly tightly built-up center, the heart of which is a large bazaar, partly covered, partly open-air. While visiting Prilep, among the houses mainly from the end of the 19th and 20th centuries, you can find some interesting churches, such as the church of St. Dmitri, the Annunciation church, the church of St. Nicholas or the Church of St. Paraskeva.

The biggest attraction of Prilep are two monasteries located in the rocks above the city, the monastery of St. Michael the Archangel, whose origins date back to the 10th century, and the Treskawec Monastery. These are not only stunning works of architecture and art, but also objects perfectly integrated into the landscape. There are wonderful views of the surrounding area from the surrounding rocks. In the vicinity there are also the ruins of the medieval Mark's Tower.
