Praskvica Monastery
Local name: Manastir Praskvica
Praskvica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery today located in Montenegro. Its name comes from the peach water of a nearby source (praskva, diminutive praskvica, means "peach"). The monastery was supposedly founded in 1050, although the first document that mentions it was created only in 1307. Here you can find some valuable works of art. Noteworthy are the monastery icons painted in 1681 by a painter named Radul.
The monastery is associated with the story of Yegor Stroganov, a one-armed Russian military officer who lived here as a monk at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. He was to build a 3-kilometer stone road from Sveti Stefan to the monastery. It is still called "Jegor's Way" today.
The small town where the monastery is located is a real oasis of peace between the lively resorts - Budva, Bečići and Sveti Stefan. The place is famous for the largest number of sunny days a year in this area, as well as rich Mediterranean vegetation.
