Cetinje Monastery
Local name: Monastir Cetinje
The Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Cetynia is a male Orthodox monastery. It is considered the spiritual center of Montenegro. There are many valuable relics here. In the main monastery church the so-called St. cell Peter with the relics of St. Piotr Cetyński and a part of the Holy Cross. After the October Revolution, the right hand of John the Baptist was also kept here. In 2006, however, she was returned to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. In the monastery church there are also graves of significant figures from the Petrovici-Njegoš family
Right next to the monastery there is a church museum. They are here among others monuments of Montenegrin literature from the 15th and 17th centuries, originating from the former treasury, valuable icons and liturgical objects, the epitrachelion of Saint Sava from the 13th century, the banner of the Balšicz family from the 14th century, a pastor of bishop Jan Crnojevic, as well as a copy of the oldest Cyrillic book of the southern Slavs - Oktoih ( Октоих) from 1493.
