The most important Naxxar church built in the 17th century on the site of the previous, 15th century building. It is a baroque temple with a monumental, two-tower facade. At the time of construction, the church seemed too large for a small town, which was widely criticized.
The interior hides precious Baroque paintings painted by Italian school masters. In the main altar there is a scene depicting the birth of Mary. The 18th century procession statue brought from Rome is kept in the temple. Every year on September 8 it is carried along the streets of the city accompanied by a colorful procession.Less
