The Alytus County is located at the Polish border and is known primarily from the largest and most modern spa in Lithuania, Druskininkai.

Druskininkai lying on the Nemunas has had the status of a health resort since 1794. During the Second Polish Republic they were among the most popular Polish resorts and even Józef Piłsudski was treated here. Today, 9 sanatoriums and a balneological center operate in the city. Treatments are performed on the basis of mineral sources and rich mud deposits. In the picturesque spa park on the banks of the Nemunas you can see antique mineral bathrooms, and many villas from the early 20th century and the interwar period have also been preserved in the city. There is a museum in one of them, the Kiersnowski Villa.

The other villages of the region do not attract so many tourists, but they can boast of several valuable monuments. In the capital of the district, Alytus, you can see the sixteenth century church of St. Ludwika and the 19th century synagogue. In Simna there is a defensive church from the 16th century founded by the Zabrzeziński family. The image of the Mother of God kept here is considered wonderful. In turn, in Oranach you can see the wooden church of St. Michael.
