The Roman theater was built at the end of the 1st century BC, during the reign of Emperor Augustus. The theater was modified in the 2nd and 3rd century AD, and finally abandoned in the 3rd century. During the Middle Ages, the facility was used as a source of building materials for other buildings in the city. The remains of the monument were discovered in 1958.
