Val Rosandra Nature Reserve
Local name: Riserva Naturale della Val Rosandra
A karst valley cut by the Italian-Slovenian border near Trieste. Since 1996 it has been under protection as part of a nature reserve. It is a popular excursion area for the people of Trieste, with many hiking trails leading to caves, the ruins of fortified castles, viewpoints with panoramic views of the coast and to the greatest attraction of the valley, the 36 meter waterfall. The valley-boring Rosandra River has its source in Slovenia at 412 meters above sea level, and flows into the Muggia Bay.
