Castle standing on a hill above the town of Salerno. It is perfectly visible from every point of it, and in the evening the walls are illuminated.
The fortress was built in the 6th century during the Byzantine times, and from 775 it was the seat of the Lombard king Arechi II. It was then that it was expanded, which gave the stronghold a shape that is still visible today. Today, in the partially ruined castle, there is a restaurant and a small museum presenting collections of medieval coins and ceramics found during excavations. From the walls you have a beautiful view of Salerno and the coast.Less
