Villa of San Martino
Local name: Villa di San Martino
Napoleon's summer residence, which he purchased when he was exiled to Elba in 1814. It is located in a picturesque rural setting near the town of Portoferraio.
After Napoleon left the island, the property remained uninhabited until the mid-nineteenth century, when Count Anatolio Demidoff, husband of Napoleon's barateans, built a neoclassical villa here. Currently, it houses a gallery with a collection of 19th century furniture and decorative objects. One of the rooms, called "Egyptian", is dedicated to Napoleon's expedition to Egypt and there are souvenirs and relics brought by him.Less
