MONTALCINOItaly
Fortress of Montalcino
Local name: Fortezza di Montalcino
Medieval fortress, built on a pentagonal plan in the 14th century. It was the last bastion of the resistance of the Republic of Siena against the Medici invasion, but despite its turbulent history, it has survived to our times almost intact. The walls and pastures are open to visitors, from which you can admire the view of the surrounding area. There is a shop selling local wines in the buildings of the castle, and outdoor events are held in the courtyard.
