The deepest gulf in Europe (270 meters deep) was formed in the heart of the Golgo plateau. According to legend, it was once the lair of a giant serpent, which is why the Church of San Pietro was erected nearby. The niche is actually the habitat of the Sardinian cave salamander and many other animals.
