The Steam Equipment Museum is located in the old engine shed in Straffan, County Kildare. There are prototypes of locomotives and steam engines used in the past in various plants. The Lodge Park Gardens adjoin the Museum.
The collections are gathered in a restored, neo-gothic locomotive shed. It is a tall, narrow hall with a visible wooden roof truss. Nine nineteenth-century steam engines were placed in it, which are still working and are presented during the shows. In the museum, you can also see prototypes of steam locomotives and engines. Some of them stand outside the hall.
The museum also looks after the 18th-century gardens in the neighborhood. In 2010-2016 they underwent a thorough renovation. Behind a high brick wall you can see geometric flower beds and low shrubs, a vegetable and herb garden, a small fruit orchard and a pond.
