The Black Head Lighthouse in County Clare is a small, free-standing structure on a square plan. The two-story tower is topped with a metal canopy with a lamp and a small balcony.
The lighthouse stands in a lonely place, far from human settlements. It was built in 1936. Initially, it was a carbide lamp, then a gas lamp, and since 2002 it has been powered by solar batteries. Currently, it is operated remotely. The lighthouse is a nice accent to the local landscape. You cannot visit it, only admire it from the outside.
