Listowel Castle

Listowel Castle is located in the center of the town of the same name. It is one of the best examples of Norman architecture in County Kerry. From the castle built in the 15th century, only two arched towers and one curtain wall have survived to this day.

The castle was probably built by the Fitzmaurice family in the 15th century on the site of an older 13th century building. It is known primarily as the last place to defend Desmond's rebellion against Elizabeth I, which broke out at the end of the 16th century. The castle was a square structure with four corner towers.

Today, the four-story stone structure standing on the River Feale is open to tourists. Using the metal stairs, you can climb to the top of the tower and admire the view of the city, and also imagine what sieges of such a castle could look like.
