Ned's Point Fort

Fort Ned's Point is located on the North Coast of Donegal, near the port town of Buncrana. It is a stone fort from the Napoleonic era, now open to the public. Here you can see buildings intended for soldiers, places where cannons were placed and inner courtyards.

The fort was built in 1812. It was built on a narrow, long bay that cuts inland. It protected the then important port of Buncrana. At the end of the 19th century, it was rebuilt and adapted to accommodate a modern battery of guns. The army left it in the second half of the 20th century. Since then, the building has deteriorated. Only since 2012, renovation works have been carried out on its premises.

Currently, in the fort, you can see its main elements and the positions on which the guns were placed. There is also a small historical exhibition and classes for schools are held. The fort is also used for various cultural events. It is planned to open a small aquarium on its premises.
