Burtown House is a family run estate in Athy, Co. Kildare. It is an 18th-century manor house surrounded by various themed gardens and farmland, among which there are many walking paths.
Burtown House has been in the hands of one family since the 17th century. It is the county's only private home open to the public. The family members themselves show you around the house. The mansion is two-story, rectangular with a hipped roof and a polygonal veranda built on the side. The interiors present various influences and reflect the fashions in architecture and design that changed from the 18th to the 20th century.
Tourists are also attracted to Burtown by the local gardens. They surround the house and are divided into thematic sections. Here you can see rock gardens, water gardens, shrubs and herbs, an alley of yews, a pergola with roses and numerous climbers and flower beds.
