The church was built in 1940 according to the design of Guðjón Samúelsson. It has stained glass and reliefs depicting scenes from the life of Christ and huge organs from 3,200. pipes. A model of the ship was placed under the ceiling, referring to the Nordic custom - it is to provide protection to fishermen staying at sea.
