Church of Our Lady of Laves
Local name: Notre Dame des Laves
The Church of Our Lady of Laves in Sainte-Rose was built in 1927. In 1977 it was almost destroyed by the eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise volcano - the lava river passed the temple by only 3-4 meters. Until now, its solidified remains can be seen.
Due to the high temperature generated during the eruption, some furnishings at Our Lady of Laves Church burnt. The stained glass windows decorating the windows broke at that time. They were replaced with stained glass by Guy Lefèvre, thematically referring to the eruption of the volcano and the miraculous saving of the temple.
