Bébour Forest
Local name: Forêt de Bébour
Bébour forest is one of the original preserved forests on the island of Réunion. It is located in the heart of the Reunion National Park. It covers an area of a plateau lying at an altitude of 1,300 m above sea level, which was created as a result of filling the Circus des Marsouins with lava from the eruption of the Piton des Neiges volcano. It is a great place for hiking - numerous routes and hiking trails have been marked out here.
When hiking in the Bébour Forest, visit the Bras Chanson Caves and the Dufour Cave. There are many picturesque bodies of water, including Bassin des Hirondelles and Le Plateau de Thym.
The Bébour forest is characterized by high biodiversity. Characteristic tree ferns, cryptomes, mosses and orchids grow there. There are many species of insects and birds, including endemic species. The most important of these are the predatory Mascarene harriers, Reunion bristles, Mascarene flycatchers and two species of catastrophes - white-throated and white-headed.
