Maison Folio
Local name: Maison Folio
Maison Folio, also known as Villa Folio, is a former colonial mansion, now restored and converted into a museum. The residence was built in the 19th century in the heart of the then health resort of Hell-Bourg, where the local elite regularly visited, including the governor and his family.
Maison Folio represents the traditional colonial style. During the tour of the house, you can see original period furniture. It is worth paying attention to the characteristic features of the Creole style, such as the porch or the symmetry of the rooms. At the back of the house there are three small outbuildings that used to be a kitchen, dining room, bathroom and guest rooms. Currently, one of them houses an exhibition of handicrafts and everyday objects.
Maison Folio is surrounded by a picturesque garden with aromatic and healing plants such as geranium, vetiver, patchouli, turmeric and allspice.
