Tréguier is a historic town associated with the figure of St. Iwa, the patron saint of lawyers. In the local cathedral there is his chapel, to which the faithful from France and abroad make pilgrimages.
The town was founded in the 6th century, and in the 9th century it became the seat of the bishop. The local cathedral is dedicated to St. Tugdual, a missionary who Christianized the area. The present building dates from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries and is one of the best examples of Gothic buildings in Brittany. In the cathedral there is a chapel with the tomb of St. Iwo, a medieval lawyer from Tréguier, who was famous for helping the poor.
You can get to know all the attractions of Tréguier while exploring the town. There is a small old town around the cathedral, decorated with 15th and 16th century half-timbered houses. Many of them have sloping walls and give the impression that they are about to collapse. It adds charm to them, and the town gains a unique atmosphere thanks to them.
The streets of the old town lead to the port on the river, where is the pier for a cruise ship sailing on the Jauda River. From its deck, you can explore Tréguier and its surroundings. And these encourage walks, during which you can admire the idyllic Breton views.
