Cave of the Demoiselles
Local name: Grotte des Demoiselles
Demoiselles Cave is one of the most famous natural attractions of Languedoc. This is an impressive karst grotto in which you can see a magnificent stalactite garment consisting of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, rock draperies and waterfalls.
The cave is open to visitors only in groups under the guidance of a guide. This is due to the high exposure of the route and the narrow and wet passages. The cave has several levels, and the highest halls are several dozen meters high. They can be admired from viewing balconies installed at different heights.
The cave is considered one of the best examples of stalactite in all of France. The main chamber, called the Cathedral, is 120 meters long and 59 high. Under the ground during period of long rainfall and in spring there is a periodic stream forming a small waterfall.
