The castle, erected at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries, was one of the so-called Qatari castles - fortresses in which the followers of one of the most popular dualistic heresies in the Middle Ages defended themselves. The fate of the building was sealed by the decision to demolish it in 1638 under the edict of Cardinal Richelieu.
