Opera Bastille is a modern edifice of the Paris Opera located at Place de la Bastille. It has the shape of an irregular, glass ankle. It offers a nice view of the city. It is primarily an opera stage, although concerts are also held here.
The building was opened in 1989 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the assault on the Bastille. It was to be one of the elements of the modern reconstruction of Paris. For the purposes of its construction, the historic railway station was demolished, among others.
The edifice was supposed to take over the duties of Opera Garnier. This idea was not fully realized. Praised by architects and admired for a non-standard, beautiful body, the building has not the best acoustics. This makes many artists prefer to perform in the smaller Opera Garnier.
