The d'Arcole Bridge is an iron crossing over the Seine. The bridge is 80 meters long and in its present shape it was built in 1854. It is a metal, one-arch structure based on two stone pillars at the banks of the river.
Its name derives either from the place of Napoleon's battle or the name of a participant in the July Revolution who died on the footbridge carrying a banner in his hand.
The first bridge in this place already existed in the Middle Ages. It was a pedestrian bridge that operated until the beginning of the 19th century. In 1854 an iron bridge was erected, the first in Paris leading across the entire width of the river. In 1888 the bridge slipped and had to undergo a major renovation. It was recently renovated at the end of the 20th century.
