Maintenon Castle is a Renaissance residence standing on the site of an earlier medieval stronghold. She is known as the residence of the mistress of Louis XIV, Madame de Maintenon. Its interiors have been preserved from the 17th and 18th centuries. Here you can see representative and private apartments, as well as a large collection of works of art and handicrafts.
The castle was built in the 13th century. Currently, from this oldest building you can only admire the square, massive tower. The remaining part of the building comes from the time of great reconstruction at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1675, Madame de Maintenon lived in the residence. At that time, many changes were made in private apartments and representative rooms of the castle. To this day, you can admire the rooms decorated with intricate stucco and painting decorations. Furniture and a collection of paintings are also presented.
The castle is surrounded by a landscape park. Near the house, it is made up of French-style gardens with flower beds and geometric alleys. In the further part it is a natural park. On its edge there is a stone aqueduct built in the 17th century.
