Mosaïc The Garden of Cultures
Local name: Mosaïc Le jardin des Cultures
The Mosaic of Cultures is a public park on the outskirts of Lille. Their appearance and assumptions symbolically show the diversity of the city and its inhabitants. Ten interconnected gardens are a world of magic, dreams and fantasy created from plants, sculptures and small architecture.
The gardens are inspired by the history of the city and the origin of its inhabitants. They refer to the most important events that created his identity. They also show the cultural diversity of people living in it. There are gardens inspired by the Middle and Far East, North Africa, Central Europe, the Iberian Peninsula and Mediterranean countries, as well as the landscape of Flanders. There are also references to the oldest Neolithic civilizations inhabiting these areas.
The gardens are the work of three painters, landscape painters, Jacques Simon, Yves Hubert and Jean-Noël Capart. Among the carefully selected plants they placed symbolic sculptures referring to the multiculturalism of Lille.
