A small island in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of France covers an area of approximately 8 hectares. In the 17th century it was a place of exile, and for the next 250 years it remained unpopulated. In 1950 it was bought by Paul Ricard, president of the alcohol concern Pernod Ricard, who built a hotel and a museum of wines and spirits here.
