Vasarely Foundation

Local name: Fondation Vasarely

The Vasalery Foundation is a gallery of contemporary art, and at the same time an example of modern French architecture. The building consists of seven cuboids in which works of art using optical illusions and interconnected geometric forms are presented.

The French architect and artist Victor Vasarely founded his foundation in 1966. Its goal was to build a building in which his works and vision of the "city of the future" could be presented. The gallery was opened in 1976. In addition to the permanent exhibition, which consists of 42 Vasarely's works, temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists in the field of painting, sculpture and multimedia installations are presented here.

In his works, Vasarely used figures and were geometric. He combined them together, creating complex compositions in which the refraction of light and the resulting optical illusions played a large role.
