Medieval defensive stronghold erected in the 13th – 14th centuries on an island in the mouth of the Aurajoki River. It was established around 1280 as a fortified camp. The castle was opened to the public in 1961. Here you can visit dungeons, halls and a museum dedicated to the history of Finland.
