The history of the historic monastery dates back to the beginning of the 12th century, the main building was built around 1220. Currently, the monastery buildings houses a museum, and the monastery church serves as the local parish church.
The museum has 15 permanent exhibitions devoted to, among others the history of the abbey and the activity of monks from the Premonstratensian Order, based on the rule of St. Augustine of Hippo, who lived in the monastery until the sixteenth century. There are also exhibitions of women's fashion in the twentieth century, everyday items and works of art.
Among the most important exhibits is the world's only complete embroidered copy of Bayeux fabric, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was created by 9 local embroiderers and took 15 years to make.
