Zlín castle

Local name: Zlínský zámek

The castle in Zlin is one of the few traces of the past that have survived in the city. It is a baroque building with an internal arcaded courtyard. It is currently used for cultural purposes. It houses the Vaclav Chad Gallery presenting temporary exhibitions of contemporary art. There are also rooms rented for concerts, performances and other cultural activities.

The castle was built in the 15th century as a Gothic stronghold. He changed owners very often, and in the 16th century it was transformed into a noble residence. It was permanently inhabited only until the mid-seventeenth century. Later owners stayed only for part of the year. In 1929 the castle was bought by the state. It housed the headquarters of the Regional Museum, which now under the name Museum of Southeast Moravia moved to the Malenovice Castle.

Today, the castle in Zlin is a cultural institution. Tourists can only look inside during cultural events or when Galeria Vaclava Chada presents one of its temporary exhibitions. A courtyard with glass arcades is open to the public.
