Slatiňany Castle

Local name: Státní zámek Slatiňany

Slatiňany Castle is a romantic building surrounded by a 16 hectare English park. Until 1942 it was the seat of the Auersperg family. There is a horse farm in the park that belongs to the famous stud farm in Kladruby. In the castle you can see the largest exhibition in the Czech Republic devoted to horses and horse riding.

The castle was built in the 14th century and changed owners many times. After being destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt many times. It owes its present appearance to the Auersperg family, which came into its possession in the first half of the 17th century. The palace consists of several parts built at different times. From the old castle only the tower has survived, from which today you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside. The remaining parts were rebuilt in the spirit of Romantic Neo-Gothic. At the beginning of the 20th century, some buildings received a balcony made of iron surrounding the yard. It is supported on decorated metal columns. The Auerspergs also introduced many innovations in the kitchen and baths, which are now available to tourists.

The interiors of the castle hide completely equipped rooms with furniture and trinkets from different eras. The largest part of the collection comes from the turn of the century. Some of the rooms feature a hippic exhibition. It consists of paintings and sculptures of horses, harnesses, saddles, horse care equipment, as well as stuffed specimens from the local stud.
