Prachaticke Museum
Local name: Prachatické Muzeum
The Prachatic Museum is housed in a Renaissance bourgeois house with a high attic and a facade covered with paintings. There are exhibitions on the history of the city at various times. In addition to the main exhibition, where you can see documents, everyday objects, paintings and sculptures, there are also exhibitions about the golden trail and Saint John of Nepomuk Neumann.
The museum was founded in the late nineteenth century, but moved to its present headquarters only in the mid-twentieth century. It is one of the best-preserved Renaissance houses in Prachatice. Its main core was created in the late Middle Ages, but the facade dates from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. original vaults have been preserved in the rooms.
The main exhibition guides visitors through the history of the city from the early Middle Ages to modern times. It is supplemented by four thematic exhibitions. You can get acquainted with the life of the city's inhabitants during the Renaissance, when Prachatice experienced its greatest prosperity. The exhibition on the Golden Trail was created in cooperation with a museum from České Budějovice and the University of Passau. It shows Prachatice as a commercial city through which goods were transported from around the world. In the museum you can also see what this institution looked like during the time of Franz Joseph.
