Church of St. Jacob the Greater
Local name: Kostel sv.Jakuba Většího
The church of Saint James the Greater is a Gothic three-nave building with a polygonal presbytery and an irregular façade. Its shape was created for several centuries and influences of different styles are visible in it. Inside, large fragments of late Gothic polychromies have been preserved.
The church was built in the first half of the fourteenth century. a polygonal enclosed chancel has survived to this day. After a great fire that hit the temple at the beginning of the 16th century, a three-nave corps was built. Construction of two towers began, of which only one was completed. It is 53 meters high and is topped with a Renaissance gallery covered with a small dome.
The interior of the church is very strict. They are covered with network vaults and in the presbytery cross-ribbed. Equipment was created in different eras. You can see, among others, baroque altars. In the presbytery, large fragments of late Gothic paintings of saints and scenes from the Holy Bible have been preserved. Remains of polychrome were also found on the outer walls of the church.
