Cyprus Museum
Local name: Κυπριακό Μουσείο
The Cyprus Museum or the Cyprus Museum, also known as the Cyprus Archaeological Museum, is the oldest and also the largest archaeological museum in Cyprus. It collects objects from excavations carried out throughout the country. The most important exhibits include the statue of Aphrodite of Solo and objects from the Royal Tombs of Salamis.
The museum's collections have been divided thematically and chronologically into expositions arranged in 14 rooms. We will see here objects documenting the history of the island from prehistoric times to the early Christian period. These are ceramic, metal and stone items such as dishes, everyday items, tools, coins and jewelry.
The museum was founded in 1882. His current headquarters was established in 1908 especially for the needs of the museum, designed by the Cypriot architect Nikolaos Balanos. In the 1960s, the building was significantly expanded.
