Byzantine Museum Pafos
Local name: Εκκλησιαστικό Μουσείο Πάφου
The Paphos Ecclesiastical Museum has extensive collections that show religious art as well as various sacred and liturgical items. These collections represent the Orthodox tradition, which is why we will see, among others, antique icons. The most valuable exhibits include the icon from the 9th century, considered the oldest Cypriot icon, and the unusual two-sided icon from Filusa.
The exhibitions of the Ecclesiastical Museum also allow visitors to see wooden crosses and crucifixes, iconostasis, metal objects (the oldest of which come from the sixth century) and textiles. The museum also has a unique collection of episcopal woods and very valuable manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The museum has been in its current headquarters since 2017. The building is adapted to the needs of the disabled. There is a bookstore on site, offering books on topics related to the profile of the museum.
