Museo Lapidario is an example of a combination of historic architecture and ancient art with the achievements of modern artists. The museum's permanent exhibition houses one of the most valuable collections of stone monuments in Croatia. The collection has about 100 exhibits, dated from the 1st to the 18th centuries. At the same time, the facility presents contemporary art exhibitions and is a place for concerts and film screenings.
The most valuable exhibit in the Museo Lapidario collection is the cyborium of the bishop of Mauritius, dated to the 8th century. The place of presentation was arranged in such a way as to refer to the original baptistery. Also noteworthy is the rich collection of stone-carved ornaments, both on Christian and ancient themes (animalistic and mythological performances).
The museum building itself is also a kind of work of art. It is a modern, glazed exhibition space, emphasizing the openness of the museum. The body of the building is maximally simplified - it consists of two cuboids, which are integrated into the surrounding, historic architecture and park greenery. Lapidarium is advertised as a "museum for a new age".
