Lonjsko Polje Nature Park

Local name: Park prirode Lonjsko Polje

The Lonjsko Polje Nature Park covers an area of over 50 hectares, it is the most extensive protected wetland in Croatia. It stretches along the banks of the Sava River. Part of the park is covered by a beautiful oak forest. This is the refuge of the white stork, common spoonbill and small cormorant.

Due to the large number of storks nesting here, the village of Čigoč was awarded the title of European Stork Village. You can also find mud turtles and tree frogs in the park.

A place worth visiting is the village of Krapje with its characteristic buildings. Wooden houses have been adapted to the conditions prevailing in this area. External stairs leading to the first floor are a great solution during frequent floods.

In the spring and autumn, the park is flooded by the waters of Sawa. The flood lasts from 30 to 100 days over a year.
