The Risnjak National Park covers a forested mountain range, along with the source of the Kupa River and the Wielki Ryśniak (Veliki Risnjak) and Śnieżnik (Snjeznik) massifs. The location between the Alps and the Dinaric Mountains, and thus the specific microclimate, causes that many species of plants (including about 30 endemics) and animals live here. You can meet here, among others brown bear, deer, roe deer, chamois and the white lynx, from which the name of the park is probably derived.
The national park was opened on September 15, 1953. It is located in the most forested part of Croatia, so you can admire the panoramas only from the tops of the mountains. The highest is Wielki Risnjak (1528 m above sea level), while the lowest point is the Leska valley (680 m above sea level). Tourist routes are not technically difficult and do not require any special preparation. There are only a few exceptions to the sub-peak parties.
