Blue Cave

Local name: Modra špilja

The Blue Cave is one of the greatest geological wonders of Croatia, compared to the Cote d'Azur on the island of Capri. The cave located on the eastern side of the narrow, limestone island of Biševo is only accessible to tourists from the open sea, so in the season queues from boats and pontoons often arise at the entrance. It is best to visit this place on a cloudless day between 11am and 12pm, when the sun rays penetrating the cave light up the cave creating amazing blue reflections.

Although the cave was already known in ancient times, it was opened to visitors only in 1884. The cave is about 30 meters long and 17 meters wide. Its amazing structure makes the light reflecting off the water creates an extraordinary spectacle. Visiting this place is also worth visiting the remains of a medieval monastery with the church of St. New Year's Eve located on the island.
