The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the writer and poet Ivan Vazov, considered one of the most important creators of modern Bulgarian literature. It is located in his family house, built in the 18th century by the poet's great-grandfather. The building has been a museum since June 1935, and since 1964 it has been a cultural monument of national importance.
The idea to create a museum was born in 1920, i.e. a year before the writer's death. His 70th birthday and 50th anniversary of his literary work were celebrated then. Vazov himself made sketches of the interior of the house where he grew up from memory. They were later used during reconstruction works. The memories of the writer's siblings were used in a similar way.
In addition to the reconstructed rooms and exhibitions devoted to the life of Vazov, the museum also features a reconstruction of the Hadji Achilles hairdressing salon with characters from the stories "Hadji Achilles" and "Uncle".
