The Stone Forest is a group of natural stone columns, divided into several groups. Most of them measure from 5 to 7 m in height, and their diameter ranges from 30 cm to 3 m. They have characteristic transverse cracks, and some of them are hollow inside. The columns are slightly embedded in the ground, which is why many of them are now overturned.
There are many theories about the creation of columns. The thesis, popular in the 19th century, that they were a remnant of ancient buildings, was ruled out. Most likely, they arose naturally as a result of the so-called surface evolution.
The area surrounding the columns is semi-arid, covered with sand and stones. You can see single plants here, including cacti and acacia. Many lizards, snakes and scorpions live here, rabbits and foxes also appear.
