The covered bridge over the Osym River, the official symbol of Lowecz, connects the old and new parts of the city. Its built-up part now houses 9 shops, 3 workshops and 2 pastry shops, which makes it one of the few bridges of this type in Europe. It is also the only such bridge in the Balkan Peninsula.
The first covered bridge was built of wood in the second half of the 19th century. It stood on 5 stone pillars, decorated with sculptures depicting, among others, a lion and a two-headed eagle. It was 8 meters long, 10 meters wide and 7 meters high. It consisted of a road and a footpath. It also housed 64 small shops. The building was destroyed by a fire in 1925.
Another bridge was quickly built on the site of the destroyed bridge, but in the 1980s it was replaced by a modern, reinforced concrete structure. It is a fairly faithful replica of the original bridge, with the structure being extended to 106 meters and the number of stores reduced to 14.
