Museum of Natural History
Local name: Природонаучен музей
The Natural History Museum was founded in 1956 by the local biology teacher, Iliy Hristov Iliev. Twenty years later, they were moved to a separate building that still occupies it. Currently, the collection consists of approx. 700 exhibits, most of which are zoological exhibits.
The exhibitions are located in three rooms. In the "Hall of Attractions" you can see a cross-section of various species of animals living in the central Balkans. In the second room, the taxidermies of mammals are presented. Together, they represent almost all of the more than 60 species occurring in Bulgaria. Among them are bears, deer, roe deer, wolves, foxes and weasels. The last room is dedicated to birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects. The collections are presented in the form of dioramas and in display cases with information plates.
