The picturesque village, which is now an archaeological and historical reserve, was founded in the 16th century. It was entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are over a hundred historic, mostly restored houses with characteristic, regional architecture, representing the so-called Bulgarian Renaissance.
The houses are covered with stone slabs and have deeply covered verandas. Most of them are two-story - there are usually living quarters on the first floor and various workshops on the ground floor. In addition to the houses, you can see a traditional tavern in the center of the settlement, and a forge. In the building of the former school, dating from 1872, apart from classrooms, there is a small art gallery and a library.
Historical reenactments and reconstructions take place here regularly in the village. You can then see traditional customs and rituals, as well as craft shows.
