The building complex was formerly the seat of a secular convent of beginners and begisters, which was founded in 1238. The preserved buildings consist of 41 baroque houses, a 17th-century belfry and a Gothic chapel. The entire architectural ensemble is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
