Ruins of a 13th-century castle that guarded the road to mining towns in central Slovakia. The Tekov Museum is located in the castle complex. It houses archaeological, ethnographic and natural science collections.
The castle played an important role during the Turkish wars. In 1664, during an attempt to capture the castle, the Turks were defeated, which stopped their further attack on the central part of Slovakia. This battle went down in history as the Great Battle of Lewice.
The castle complex also includes the Renaissance Dobó Palace (named after Stefan Dobó, who contributed to the battles against the Turks), built in the 16th century. The eastern tower has been preserved in good condition. A castle park was built in the former moat.
