The historic square is adjacent to the port. In its center is a bronze statue of the ancient Roman poet, Ovid. The statue is 2.2 meters high and stands on a stone base. The statue was erected here in 1887, but during the First World War it was removed from the square for two years.
The square used to be the town hall, and now the National Museum of History and Archeology is located in its building. Unfortunately, most of the historic buildings surrounding the square were pulled down in the 1970s and 1980s.
