Zamość City Park is considered one of the most valuable areas of this type in the country. It was built in the interwar period and was designed by a well-known Warsaw garden planner, Walerian Kronenberg. It is worth adding that the area of the park is also part of the historic Old Town in Zamość - a Historical Monument inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The park was established in the areas remaining after the liquidation of the Zamość fortress - it covers the area of the former bastion IV. Its area is over 11 ha, of which almost 2 ha is occupied by a pond created in the place of the former fortress moat.
The park was opened to the public in 1926. Since then, it has been expanded and improved. Today, it is a popular place for walks, especially in summer, when you can go canoeing on the pond or ride a horse-drawn carriage.
